Like moving into a new house or buying a new car, starting anything from the beginning can be exciting or frustrating. Several years ago I had another website by my original pen name (JillStar) which I eventually gave up due to changes in my life. Since then there are so many people using the name ‘Jill Star’ that the old website, jillstar.com, is now for sale for the low and reasonable price of $895.00. Too bad I didn’t keep it, huh? Well, that was then and this is now.
Today I am known by Phenix Jira on several sites but especially in relation to my poetry writing. If and when I decide to go back to writing stories, I may or may not use this same pen name. Heck, I might just use my real name at that point. Some ask why I would use a pen name instead of my real name. There are several reasons people do not use their real name but for me it’s a privacy issue. There are lunatics on the Internet… in case you didn’t know… so my warning to everyone is to ‘be careful at all times’.
A friend of mine likes the look of JiRa and, after consideration, I do as well. As seen in the ‘About’ section, JiRa is a combination of my first and last name; the first two letters of my first and the last two letters of my last. It is pronounced Jee-Ruh. After developing this name, I later found out that it is also the name of a commercial software product. I decided to look into it more and apparently it is not an acronym but instead is a part of Gojira which I learned is the Japanese name for Godzilla.
An interesting bit of trivia but nothing to do with me.
Sometimes when people comment on my writing or posts, they will call me Jira or Jill or Phenix… any of these are fine but to make it clear, my full pen name is Phenix Jira and I am in no way using the name JiRa in conjunction with the software product. As I said, it is a combination of my first and last name.
Now that that is out of the way… onward and upward… moving forward with my writing and other aspect of my life that I decide to share. Writing makes me happy and happy is what I want to be.
