Fast Fiction Friday

One of the things I have enjoyed over the years is creating writing prompts for fellow writers. I have done this under the heading of Fast Fiction Friday (FFF) through various sites and forums. Currently, I have posted these prompts in the blog listed below called Fast Fiction Friday. I am going to link to that blog and keep it up for those who wish to visit it and start with new prompts here going forward.

Here is a description of what FFF is…

The objective of the Fast Fiction Friday exercise is to write with complete focus on the given subject. One of the best ways to accomplish this task is to write for a set amount of time, without distractions and without editing. Let the words flow from your mind to the paper and ignore self doubt and outside issues. The goal is to become so addicted to writing that you can’t help but do it! All writers are welcome whether you write short stories, poems, memoirs, non-fiction, essays or a personal journal.

Why Phenix JiRa as a Pen Name?

Phenix is a special spelling of the mythical bird, phoenix. I identify with the bird and it’s life cycle, although I have not determined how to come back from the ashes. JiRa is a combination of my first and last name and was a way of identifying myself along with my poetry and other writing.

Acceptance or Tolerance

Unique
Striking
Unusual

Crazy
Disgusting
Insane

Annoying
Beautiful
Exasperating

Formidable
Ugly
Intimidating

Distracting to you all
For a multitude of reasons,
Some just,
Some unjust.

We are,
In the end,
All the same in
Completely different ways.

Put it in My Glass

Give me another shot,
another bottle,
another barrel.

Label it green,
label it orange,
or no label at all.

Call it what you will
just put it in my glass.

Pour it down my throat,
open the emptiness to its glory.

The liquid boiling my guts,
boiling my thoughts,
my memories,
my life.

Roll me another round of dice,
deal out the cards and lets play.

I can feel her just around the corner,
the Lady brings riches on this wretched night.

Put the whiskey in my glass,
the dice in my cup.
Mix them together if it makes you happy,
just pour it down my throat.

The ice clanks,
the rum mixes easily with my coke,
gliding it’s silky fingers across my lips.

Promises of a smooth ride
into the deep hours of the night.
My engine purring as I take another shot
just a little deeper than the last.

Don’t cut me off now,
I’m on a roll.
The cards are turning my way,
the dice are landing with me in mind.

Give me another shot,
another bottle,
another barrel.

Call it what you will
just put in in my glass.

Love

To me, there is no definition…
except that in the end,
it always hurts.
